Seeing your Life through the Lens of the Gospel
- Short-term loss is sometimes necessary for long-term gain, as a student studying, or an athlete training, can testify. When have you found that denying yourself proved to be worthwhile because of what you gained afterwards?
- Jesus was teaching his followers that the path of discipleship would involve pain and suffering. His friend, Peter, would have none of it. Sometimes friends have a mistaken idea of what is for our good. What lessons have you learned about handling bad advice from a good friend?
- Jesus knew that because his good news message was not acceptable to the authorities he would suffer and die. In spite of this, he trusted that the power of God would overcome evil. Have you seen a good news message survive even though opponents tried to stifle it?
The Altar
Centre of Attention – Twentieth Century liturgical reforms addressed the role of the assembly, and that prompted drastic changes to sanctuary design and in particular the altar. Vatican II never openly stipulated that the priest should face the people, the primary concern was the active participation of the people. They should see and understand the action of the Mass, and that required a free-standing altar once again, with the priest facing the people. Sacrosanctum Concillium said, ‘ The rite of the Mass is to be revised in such a way that the intrinsic nature and purpose of its several parts, also the connection between them, may be more clearly manifested, and that devout and active participation by the faithful may be more easily achieved. ‘And the General instruction of the Roman Missal followed this with more details. ‘The altar should be build separate from the wall, in such a way that it is possible to walk around it easily and that Mass can be celebrated at it facing the people, which is desirable wherever possible.’
ADORATION: Tuesday from 10:15am to 6pm.
