Fourth Glorious Mystery
God would not allow the Virgin Mary’s body to corrupt in a grave. She was spouse of the Holy Spirit, Mother of God. She has had a hard and difficult life; she accepted every part of it. Unmarried mother – child born in a place for animals – a refugee from Herod – a return as housewife and mother to Jesus – not in a rich mansion – the wife of a carpenter. She lost Jesus as a child, and then found him -she heard people ridicule him, torture and kill him and she accepted it all because of the faith in Almighty God, and his promise to her. Offer this decade of the rosary to her – every prayer for her use and her pleasure.
JULIANA IS LEAVING
Mrs Juliana Rensburg is leaving St Peter Apostle Parish this week to join a member of her family in Birmingham. As we say farewell to her this weekend our thoughts, prayers and love will go with her. Juliana came to the parish many years ago from another continent; and from that moment of arrival her witness to the Gospel has been relentless: her love of the Mass, sacraments and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the rosary, the regular visitation of the nursing homes and there praying with a resident in their last moments before death.
God bless you and thank you
Seeing your Life through the Lens of the Gospel
- The story illustrates the power of faith. Have you noticed that when you believe in someone, or something, you can do things that would not be possible when you are full of doubts? Recall moments when your faith gave you strength and courage? Name for yourself the different kinds of faith that had this effect: belief in yourself, trust in another, faith in God.
- When Jesus got into the boat the winds ceased. Who has been a Jesus person for you and helped to calm a storm that frightened you or made you anxious?
The Altar
The concept of altar precedes Christianity. In the Old Testament it was the place of sacrifice and offering to God, by Abraham, Moses and Melchizedek; in the desert tabernacle tent and then in the temple in Jerusalem. The tradition was continued in the New Testament; at the table of the Last Supper, Christ offered the Sacrifice of the New Covenant on the Altar of the new Christian age.
The singular most important feature of our church is the altar. This is reflected in the Rite of Dedication which involves the blessing and sprinkling of water, the deposition of relics, anointing with Chrism, incensation, covering with a cloth and the lighting of candles. All this is accompanied by prayers, antiphons, psalms and the Litany of the Saints. Powerful and rich symbolism!
The altar is the entire purpose of a church! The altar is Christ! Josef Pieper describes a church as a ‘structure which surrounds the altar.’ The altar is the reason we have churches!
ADORATION: Tuesday from 10:30am to 6pm.
