Evidence shows over 3 million people are living with undiagnosed leprosy and over 4 million people are living with a life-changing disability caused by leprosy. Although curable, many people are unable to access treatment, even though the cure is free. Lepra works to find, treat and rehabilitate these hidden people and promote their rights in India and Bangladesh.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD: This Thursday marks the liturgical end of the season of Christmas.

THE BLESSING OF CANDLES: Because of the funeral Mass, this rite of blessing of candles will now take place the next day, Friday at the 7:30pm Mass.

THE BLESSING OF THROATS: For the feast of St Blaise will take place at the 7:30 Mass on Friday.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: The Catholic Church in Rushden has 2 representatives on the local committee of World Day of Prayer organisation: Valerie Brierley and Juliana Rensburg. Juliana will shortly be moving away from our Diocese to be closer to her daughter which means that Valerie will be the sole representative for our church. It is recommended that all the various denominations are represented on the committee and it will be a pity if our church is not represented.

If there are any ladies who would like to be a member of the committee, I assure you that you will be made to feel very welcome. It is not an onerous job at all, we meet at the most three times a year, in January to organise the present year World Day of Prayer church service, then first week in March, the actual church service with a meeting a week later to discuss how the service went. And that is all. If someone is interested, please feel free to contact Valerie on 01933 319166.

CALLING ALL YOUNG PEOPLE: The next LUX event will take place on the weekend of February 3rd-5th at the King’s Park Conference Centre, Northampton where the theme will be LUX.Flawless. The event is open to anyone from Year 7 and up, aged 11-18 years old and costs £120 inclusive of accommodation, all weekend meals and all activities. More information can be found at

Seeing your Life through the Lens of the Gospel

  1. We are told that Jesus ‘fixed his eyes on the disciples’ before speaking. It suggests that he was about to say something that he really wanted them to take in. Surprisingly he then tells them it is no bad thing for us to be poor or hungry. But perhaps you have recognised the truth in what St Augustine said ‘You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you’.

  1. ‘Blessed are you who weep’ is not an encouragement to be miserable. Rather it is an affirmation of the importance of loving relationship in life. We are blessed to have such people in our lives, but there may also be pain. Yet is it not true that the blessing of loving and being loved is worth the price you pay?

  1. Jesus said that his followers would be open to opposition and ridicule because of him – and they are blessed when this happens. Unpleasant it may, but have you not been grateful on those occasions when you had the courage to stand by something that you believed in?

ADORATION: Tuesday from 10am to 5pm.
