WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: The service for the World Day of Prayer which was to take place on Friday, March 5th has regrettably been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus. The church service has been prepared by the Christian women of VANUATU (vah-noo-ah-too) under the heading, “Build on a Strong Foundation”. It will be good if we can all say a prayer for the women of Vanuatu as they do have a very difficult life. Valerie Brierley who is on the committee for WDP has 6 copies of the service for March 5th if anyone would like a copy. It is beautifully prepared.

THE YEAR OF ST JOSEPH: Pope Francis has called for a year dedicated to Saint Joseph with his Apostolic Letter “Patris corde” (“with a father’s heart”) on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St. Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church.

PRAYER FROM THE APOSTOLIC LETTER OF POPE FRANCIS:

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.

THEMES FOR OUR PRAYER:

– respecting the value of fatherhood

– belonging to the universal Church

– the dignity of human labour

– concern for refugees, asylum seekers, the oppressed

– adoption and fostering

– the grace of a happy death
